As China continues to expand its influence on the global stage, its engagement with Southeast Asia has taken on greater strategic importance. Supported by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Malaysia, the Institute of China Studies (ICS) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of Universiti Malaya and the Research Center on Building a Community with a Shared Future for Humanity, China Foreign Affairs University will convene an international conference on 26 November 2025, titled “ASEAN–China Relations in Global Transformations: Progress, Opportunities, Challenges.” The event will bring together leading scholars and policy experts from China and ASEAN member states to examine the evolving political, economic, and strategic dimensions shaping this vital partnership.
Discussions will explore key developments in ASEAN–China relations — from strategic ambitions and trade patterns to diplomatic initiatives and regional security dynamics — all set against the backdrop of shifting global power structures and growing economic interdependence.
Adopting a multidisciplinary lens, the conference aims to foster deeper understanding and constructive dialogue on both the opportunities and complexities of ASEAN–China engagement amid global uncertainty. Panels will address themes such as regional economic integration, global governance, the Belt and Road Initiative, the Community with a Shared Future, technology and new productive forces and the roles of ASEAN and China in shaping the future of Asia–Pacific governance.
By promoting scholarly exchange and cross-border perspectives, this conference seeks to cultivate a more nuanced appreciation of ASEAN–China relations and to inspire collaborative approaches to regional development and global cooperation.
